Everything is going well with Evan. The Doctor gave him a good bill of health for both his Tracheomalacia and BOR. He is going to do surgery on his ear pits and neck fistulas after Evan is a year old. We are also going to see an Optometrist to check out Evan's tear ducts. Another affect of BOR are clogged tear ducts and it seems Evan may have that problem. Thank goodness they can do both surgeries at the same time if needed. He is still quite the miracle child with this syndrome and we are thankful for that every day of our lives. Evan will have two more hearing tests next month because even though he passed the 'big' test, there is still a 90% chance he has some hearing loss.
We will start our genetic tests in July to learn more about where the syndrome stems from in our family. We also received some paperwork about a research project that a group is conducting to learn more about the syndrome. They take blood work from as many family members as possible to learn more about the make up of the syndrome. Something else we found out is that when Evan decides to have children, they will have a 50% chance of having BOR. Kind of scary, but Tony and I are faced with that decision also when it comes to future children.
Anyhow, I am scheduled for my (hopefully) last surgery on the 28th of this month. It can go two ways. One way is very simple and my recovery could be two weeks and the other is complicated and my recovery could be eight weeks. Can you guess which we are hoping for? I am sure I will be starved for outside world, so come and visit us! And thanks to the wonderful Auntie Ellen who has offered to help out since it won't be in my best interest to lift my cute little 17 pounder! We are looking forward to you being with us.
